SCENARIOS AND PROJECTIONS FOR TOURISM AND GAMES IN 2024

We can say with certainty that tourism is one of the main growth segments in Brazil and worldwide. Several global studies prove that the new generations prefer to travel and live new experiences rather than, for example, buying a dream car. Even generations such as the “Baby Boomers, X, Y” also place tourism in the basket of priorities to increase their quality of life, and with the consolidated phenomenon of social media, everyone posts their travels, spreading their experiences and strengthening their social status.

According to the UNWTO, Brazil is ranked first in the world in terms of potential natural resources for tourism. We have a population/potential tourist market of over 203 million inhabitants (IBGE census 2022) which today does not yet reach 30% of its total population. We have a welcoming population, favorable exchange conditions that strengthen consumption in the domestic market and the increase in exports, in addition to having consolidated tourism products in all states.

Tourism in Brazil is beginning to have public policies for generating foreign currency and jobs, with cases throughout the country of legislation creating, for example, tourist districts, with the expansion of municipalities incorporating tourism master plans, tourist inventories and demand surveys, which will enable sustainable growth of our market in the coming years.

Tourism/real estate projects such as timeshares have provided an increase in the supply and structural quality of hotel and entertainment products, especially in leisure tourism destinations with more than 500 launches planned for this year of 2024, an example being the APM Resort in Caieiras-SP with 300 rooms and a Convention Center for 1,200 people. The tourism production chain will reach an offer in 2024 of more than 580,000 housing units in the hotel industry, 1.6 million vehicles for rental, 40,000 agencies and tour operators, 80 theme and nature parks, more than 2.7 million restaurants and bars, more than 3,000 event centers, among other tourism products (compilation of data from the main tourism entities).

Thus, in 2024, we can project that these scenarios in relation to tourism in Brazil point to growth rates of more than 7.5% in the leisure market compared to 2023, and with the consolidation of the return of events and fairs, the corporate destinations market has growth projections of 5%.

At the end of 2023, Bill 3626/23 on Sports Betting and Online Casinos was sanctioned by the president. IDT-CEMA estimates that the revenue from this Sports Betting market has the potential to reach almost R$100 billion in revenue in Brazil over the next 3 years, generating approximately R$12 billion in taxes. From these taxes collected, we will be able to increase competitiveness and tourism promotion, as 28% will be allocated to the tourism sector by the Ministry of Tourism. This year, projects will even begin in hotel ventures, theme parks and restaurants to integrate sports betting and online casinos, which will create new points of sale and revenue with participation in remuneration or merchandising, with a projection of being able to reach 1% to 15% of the total revenue of the venture.

The next approval scheduled for this year, of Law 442/91 of Integrated Casinos Resorts, Tourist Casinos and Bingos, foresees the entry of USD 70 billion in national and international investments, which will directly activate the real estate, construction, furniture, decoration, technology and industrial markets; next will come the qualification of professionals with the academy and educational institutions; to then reach the operation, enhancing the destination Brazil with its 52 segments of tourism.

The EXPOTEL Fair will take place on April 24th and 25th, 2024, at the Frei Caneca Convention Center in São Paulo, where cases, trends and strategic discussions will be presented for the hospitality, gastronomy, gaming, casinos, sustainability, diversity, accessibility, management and tourism sectors at the III FHORESP Meeting, at the XIV SEHGA and III BOGEC.
